What a nice surprise! 悠 游 sent me a movie he made showing his friends and what they are up to at the design school. This movie brings back nice memories. He included pictures from the time when I was studiying with them - two years ago… how time flies! Wonder when we meet next time.

“加油” in German means “gib Gas”. Literally translated to English it says “add fuel” but it just means “go, go!”. I think that’s the mantra of almost all the Chinese I met while I was studying and working there. Especially at the design university it was a very common and often used expression among the students. I felt the pressure to be the best. Another often used expression was “我们很多人” (women hen duo ren) means “we are so many people”.
Chinese seem to see their colleagues as competitors. I remember a project we did. I was surprised how each team was ambitiously working together almost forming a family going “加油” and on the same time they were observing the other teams in fear and distrust because they could do better.
I feel this attitude is very much visible in Chinese development. I am convinced because people are repeating this mantra as long as there is “fuel” they can become the best. Whatever the best means…
