Inspiring chat with a random man thanks to a bag

Today, I stopped my shopping for a short chat about big questions with a person I have never ever met before.
Ok, I have to admit. I wasn’t very innocent. I made the first step. No, a bag did. A unique, handmade bag. A bag made in the Phillippines.
The bag and me asking the man if he has ever been to the Philippines made the following 5 minutes very interesting conversation happen.
He was surprised I was asking him a question. In Bern this normally doesn’t happen. Random people asking you these questions. He hesitated to answer. I then pointed out to his bag. I said I have a similar one. People normally buy them in Sagada. We both have been there. Just, he was there about 12 years before me.
A rather short but very interesting conversation started. What I will remember was his experience with the dead body with the socks and cap tradition and the healer in the Philippines, the question he was able to ask the Dalai Lama once, Switzerland as a country’s bad karma (money and weapons), alcohol destroying Marroco etc. It was inspiring. There are interesting and very nice people out there!
What he said in the end was one of the nicest things I’ve ever been told by a random man after a 5 min chat:
“Häb der Sorg. Settigi (wie di) brucht’s uf derä Wäut.”
Engl.: Take good care of yourself. People like you that’s what’s needed in this world.
I will. You too, please.
Plus I hope my products will also one day start inspiring conversations and even actions just as the Sagada bag did.
